Ms.Anna Catania
Chairperson Council for the Counselling Profession, Malta
Anna Catania is the Chairperson of the Council of the Counselling Profession in Malta. She has worked as a nurse, counsellor, and sex therapist as part of the Multidisciplinary Team at the Breast Cancer Clinic, Mater Dei Hospital. Moreover, she is part of the Cancer Survivorship Team at Sr. Anthony Mamo Oncological Centre in Malta. She is huge advocate for the importance of addressing sexual health and sexual rehabilitation as a core component of cancer care and has dedicated most of her professional efforts to this cause.
Ms Catania has carried out various presentations and workshops both locally and internationally and emphasises the importance of looking at sexuality and cancer from a systemic perspective as cancer diagnosis and treatment does not only affect the person concerned but also their loved ones. She is a visiting lecturer at the University of Malta teaching undergraduate and post-graduate students Cancer and Sexuality.
Currently, she is a Senior Practicing Member of the Malta Association for the Counselling Profession, and a Registered member of the College of Sexual and Relationship Therapists (CORST) and the European Society for Sexual Medicine (ESSM). She believes in the importance of continuous professional development and dissemination of knowledge and research.
