Welcome Letter

It is my pleasure to inform you that the meeting is planned to take place in Aalborg, Denmark, 30 June – 3 July 2022. Aalborg is considered to be one of the best 25 small cities in the world, at factors such as the quality of public transport, lively metabolism and progressive local government, among other things, according to Monocle’s inaugural Small Cities Index.

The European Federation of Sexology has over 50 active societies and also individual members. The society hosts a congress each other year in which new scientific results are presented within the fields of urology, gynecology, psychiatry, endocrinology, general medicine and psychology.
The society is working for interdisciplinary exchange of new knowledge among health professionals and mental health workers regarding sexology and sexual health. EFS also works for educating young colleagues in the field of sexology by promoting courses and exams directed at qualifying a new generation in sexual medicine and psychosexology.
The advent of chapter 17 in the diagnostic manual ICD-11, ratified by the WHO general assembly in May 2019, places sexual health in a central position in the totality of human health issues. The profession of sexology has been one main contributor to the understanding and the implementation of sexual health.
During the congress interesting discussions arise among the international participants and networking is a valued part of these meetings.
We aim at having 450 participants from the whole world.
The congress venue will be in Aalborg Culture and Congress Center in the heart of Aalborg. The Congress Center is ISO 20121 certified meaning that sustainability is in our minds.

Best regards

Astrid Højgaard
Chairwoman of The Organising Committee

Welcome Letter

Dear Colleagues and Friends,

Due to the profound negative effects of COVID-19, we had to organize a virtual congress to ensure the participants’ safety in the year 2020. This year we are working towards organizing a face-to-face congress to meet you in person and help establish closer links between colleagues from all over the world.  It is an honor and pleasure for The European Federation of Sexology (EFS) to welcome you to the 16th EFS Congress that will be held in Aalborg-Denmark between 30 June -2 July 2022.

The EFS will deliver a high-quality congress which hopefully will turn out to be a memorable experience both scientifically and socially. As we believe that the scientific success of a congress depends on the contributions of the delegates, we hope that many of you will be able to get actively involved in this congress.

The programme will cover a wide range of new clinical and research topics including challenges faced regarding sexual rights, sexual health and sexual disorders. Sexual health and sexual rights are no longer luxuries but essentials and necessities to live a life with dignity. We all need to be validated and respected for what we are, what we believe and how we live. The congress will reflect the importance of “connection among people without leaving anyone behind” which applies both to the difficult times we are currently passing through due to the pandemic and to our normal lives, to which hopefully we will return soon.

The interdisciplinary and international nature of the congress will no doubt enhance professional and social networking and exchange of information and knowledge from diverse communities and cultures. Our host will be the Danish Association of Clinical Sexology (DACS). We have no doubt that you will enjoy the Nordic hospitality in the beautiful city of Aalborg.

On behalf of EFS, I am looking forward to seeing you in Aalborg and expecting your generous contributions to the scientific content of the congress to reaffirm the continuous development of our community and enjoy a top-quality scientific program.

Cordial regards,

Mehmet Sungur
President of the European Federation of Sexology (EFS)
Professor of Psychiatry, Istanbul Kent University
